Everlywell Food Sensitivity Kit - Test + Results

If you're not familiar with Everlywell, well, you should be! They offer a variety of at-home tests ranging from- Vitamin D, Testosterone, Thyroid and Metabolism tests - that are all easy to use, doctor-reviewed, and tested in CLIA-certified laboratories.
For this post, I chose to do the Food Sensitivity Test, since I have been on a variety of food elimination diets in the past. I think that we've all been in the same position before. We eat something that doesn't agree with us, but you can't quite pinpoint what it was that you ate. For me, I've had many issues with gastritis in the past and if I could figure out what was making those symptoms randomly flare up (I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy!) I would gladly cut it out of my diet. Not to mention, people ask me all the time about diets: low-carb, high-carb, Keto, Paleo, you name it. I like to be as informed as possible, so I felt like this test was a great step in the right direction.

How the Everlywell food sensitivity test works
The Everlywell Food Sensitivity Test measures levels of the antibody IgG in the body. Each time you eat a food that causes a mild or moderate reaction to a food, this antibody is created. The tests are highly accurate and are able to test very low levels of IgG in the blood. There are some factors, however. The test can only detect foods that you have eaten over the course of the last four weeks, which means if you have been on an elimination diet, or have taken reactive foods out of your diet, they will show low to no-reactivity to the test. This doesn't mean that they aren't problematic, but rather, that you have eliminated them from your bloodstream.
I had literally just started an elimination diet with a client when I got the news of my partnership with Everlywell, so I can honestly say that I stopped that pretty quick and that I immediately went back to eating my normal diet (which, to be honest, is not much different).
The test measures for the following foods:

How Do I Take the Test?
The test kit provides all of the equipment that you'll need to take the test at home and the instructions are incredibly simple. Approximately 30 minutes before taking the test, you should drink a large glass of water. To have the most success at the finger prick (the test provides 3 lancets, I used 2), let your hand dangle by your side for 30 secs and press the button (quickly!) to release the lancet. I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to pricking myself to draw blood, but this was fairly simple and easy.
Once you do so, allow small blood droplets to form and place them on the provided collection card, making sure to fill the circles. I found that I had to put about two droplets in each circle. After that, you let the card dry for 30 minutes, place it in its biohazard bag and then place it in the envelope provided, complete with a return label. Once you place the box in the mail, all the hard work is done!
Once the tests have been ran, they send you an email with all of your results!

So, going into the test, I knew that I didn't have any substantial food allergies that I was looking for. I'd been a pretty open eater when it comes to different foods. I have also done the Auto-immune protocol (AIP) before and have felt better when doing so, so I was eager to see if any of the foods that we eliminated on a previous diet would show up as reactive in this experiment.
Much like I expected, I didn't have any high or moderate reactivities to any food. Interestingly enough, however, I did have mild reactions to quite a few foods, some of which I was surprised to see on there! (Ahhhh bananas!) But, the test ranks all of the foods from the highest reactivity to the lowest, so I think that bananas are well within a safe range.
The Everlywell test suggests that Mild Reactivity (Class 1) foods could possibly be the source of unwanted symptoms to the GI tract and so the best way to further classify each of the issues would be to eliminate them from my diet. The most surprising item on the test, for me, was cow's milk, since I rarely drink milk (or add milk to anything). We did have a pizza in the week leading up to the test, but the test states that cheese and milk are tested for different proteins, so I think that it might be worth trying to be a little more strict with the dairy family and see how my body adapts to it.
Overall, I don't foresee any major dietary overhaul changes for me. Starting in September, I will be doing a FREE Wellness Challenge (if you haven't already, sign up!) with Morgan from Morgan Made Simple and she has mentioned that she would like to do another round of Whole 30, so considering that most of the foods that I tested a response to are eliminated during Whole 30, I think this seems like the perfect time to try it out!
