How to Style Your Fall Wardrobe with 5 Key Pieces
When I think about creating a fall wardrobe, one of the first things I think about is: “What is something I can wear multiple different ways?” If you’re like me, and likely most of the people who read this blog, you’re cost conscious while shopping! But, being cost conscience doesn’t mean that you can’t have nice things! When it comes to pairing items for a wardrobe, I like to focus on 4-5 key pieces that might be a little bit more spendy, but will pair with everything in your current wardrobe. These pieces can also easily transition through the seasons so they are worth the investment! So, let’s get going with some inspiration!
This is hands-down my absolutely favorite fall jacket. It’s vegan leather, but it is so soft, unlike a lot of faux leather I’ve come across in the past. It doesn’t have that stiff, fake feel. Compared to my other, real leather jackets it is a bit thicker, as well as a bit stiffer, but it’s a great quality and, if I didn’t know better, would never guess it wasn’t leather. It also has such a great versatility that I’m 100% okay with paying full price for it. It’s also commonly sold out at Nordstrom (and online, I’ve checked!) so I’ve had to go back and forth to try to find it in stock for ya’ll! BlankNYC also makes a version with a hood attached, which is also another favorite of mine, but definitely gives it a bit more of a casual look. This is the #1 item that I’m packing on my Europe trip because of it’s versatility. Giving you a little inspiration below!
I was pretty resistant to the whole resurgence of the denim jacket. I’m not really sure why, really….especially since I loved a good denim jacket once upon a time. But, alas, here we are. I think some of my hesitation to the trend would be the bulkiness of a lot of jackets. I’m a big fan of this Free People jacket just because it isn’t bulky like some of the other jackets I’m seen. But then again, I think a bulky jacket can be really great if you know how to wear it (or rather, if you’re on the tall side). But, I stick to what I know, and I love this denim jacket.
Give me a good hat and we can conquer the world. Seriously, you guys. I love me a good hat. Free People is good at so many things and one of them is making hats. I definitely think a grey hat is a great investment into the realm of hats, mostly because it matches so many things. If you’re not interested in spending that much on a hat, I’ve linked a bunch of really great options below. (I got mine on sale!)
I got lucky enough to get these boots during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but they’re definitely one of my favorite pairs that I’ve purchased this fall. They’ve got just a clunky enough heel to be comfortable and the slouchiness of the boot means that they actually fit my calves (and I don’t think I have big calves, either!). Seriously, finding boots that fit me is a serious struggle, so I would assume that this would be a fairly common issue with other women. The tall boot trend has been popular for a few seasons so I think it will continue to be so, so I’m happy to invest. These Sam Edelman boots are also the perfect size to fit over jeans, with dresses or with cut off shorts for a boho vibe. Other options linked below.
Oversized Slouchy cardigan
I couldn’t pick just one to put in this category and I have done another post on my favorite budget fall cardigans from Amazon (see “6 Incredibly Affordable Cardigans from Amazon”) so I’m cardigan-obsessed for their versatility and, especially in Texas, their ability to go from fall to winter to spring. Above all else, a good cardigan should be soft, comfortable and big enough to snuggle up in. I’ve linked below some of my favorite options for the fall.
