My Aesthetica Med Spa Hydrafacial
If you’ve been on my Instagram recently, you’ve likely seen that I got the opportunity to go to Aesthetica Med Spa (it’s tucked away in my corner of Austin, on Capital of Texas Highway) for a Hydrafacial. I haven’t had a chance to find an aesthetician that I’ve been firmly committed to since I moved to Austin. And, if we’re being entirely honest here, I don’t know that I really started focusing on taking care of my skin until about 1.5 ago. I know, I know. But I also never truly experienced how strong the sun could feel until I moved to Austin! To think, if I could just tell my high-school self that sitting out in the sun for hours every day in the summertime and using tanning beds was terrible for you…
Aesthetica Med Spa is tucked away on a little hilltop off of Capital of Texas Highway (or Loop 360, depending on who you talk to!), so if you’ve never been, give yourself an extra few minutes to find it! Once you do, you’ll never miss it again. But, I’m only telling ya’ll this from experience.
The process was pretty simple and took about 45 minutes.
We started first with a Detox and Lymphatic Drainage Precleanse to get all the dirt and sweat off my face from the day. This also helps to flush out all the toxins and increase the oxygen support to the skin cells. Plus, facial massage just feels good as it preps the skin for the upcoming treatment.
Then we started with the good part! We started by cleansing the skin with a calming lactic and glycolic acid, as well as glucosamine and botanical extracts. These acids help to give the benefits of a traditional peel, but without the redness or scaling!
Then she added a brightening agent, using another gentle glycolic/salicylic solution to help loosen the debris from the pores so we could start pulling everything out!
So, I might be a bit of a weirdo, but my favorite part of treatments like this is the extraction! We started with manual extractions to pull everything out, which, honestly, it’s the most comfortable thing to do, but it’s great to help unclog the pores. And it’s definitely not painful! Then Nicole used the extraction setting tip to help draw out the remainder of the impurities. It’s very similar to a dermabrasion machine, but the Hydrafacial uses a water gun instead. It feels like a little sandpaper vacuum going across your face. In reality, it’s more akin to a pen-like tool that helps buff the skin and pull off all the dead skin cells. It’s also completely painless. This is easily my favorite part of the treatment because it makes your feel skin so flippin’ clean. And I mean, it should, right? We just buffed all the dirt and dead skin off! When we finished the procedure, Nicole showed me my own special canister of what came off my face and can I just say, YUCK! You’d be amazed at how much is STILL in your skin, even though you exfoliate it each night!
After that, we got to the super fun light therapy! We started with a papaya enzyme masque to eat away any remaining dead skin cells and buildup from within my pores. Nicole then put me under a special LED blue light, which kills the bacteria that causes breakouts and acne. It feels a little like being in a disco ball, even though your eyes are covered.
She infused some antioxidants into my skin, one to help with brightening some dark spots on my skin (don’t go out in the sun without sunscreen, kids!) and another to help build collagen where I have some baby wrinkles starting to form. Then I went back into the disco ball, this time for some red light therapy, which reduces reduces and stimulates collagen in the skin.
Then, we topped it all off with a special antioxidant serum for my skin and an SPF to protect it in the sun!
I wanted to wait for a few days after the facial to write this post, so I could tell you honestly how my skin feels. Let’s just say, it feels incredible. The biggest difference I notice is in just how soft and supple my skin feels. It was definitely lacking in hydration, even though I am fairly strict with my nighttime skincare routine. I’m already planning my next appointment, because now, it’s official - I’m hooked!
