Sephora Sale: Save & Splurge Must-Haves Haircare
As we gear up towards the holiday season, I’m sure you’re already starting the age-old question of “What should I get … for Christmas?” Well, in this case, Sephora makes it super easy with their Holiday Bonus Beauty Insider Event, which officially kicked off on October for those of us that are among the Rouge level.
For those of us who are not, let me explain how wonderful this time of year is! Sephora has a few different levels of membership (and if you aren’t a member, you can sign up here!) depending on how much you spend each year.
Sephora Beauty Insider Membership Levels
Rouge: $1000+ (sale starts November 2–5) - save 20%
VIB: $350 (sale starts November 9–12) - save 20%
BIB: <$350 (sale starts November 16-19) - save 15%
There is no cost to join, so it’s an easy way to stack up points if you don’t already use it. However, during their Holiday Bonus sale, you can save up to 20% on everything in Sephora. So, this is literally the best time to stock up on your favorite expensive skincare and hair products.
Second to skincare, keeping my hair in good condition is top priority. And, it’s not really any secret why. I have really long hair (no, it’s not extensions!) and it’s taken me a long time to get here, so I have NO intention of having to cut it all off because it’s broken and brittle.
As a runner and an athlete, my hair is usually up in a bun on the top of my head, but I do make sure I’m doing everything I can (including frequent trims!) to make sure that it stays happy and healthy! And, of course, some of these hair treatments don’t necessarily come cheap, so the Sephora sale is a great time. Even more so, it’s a great time to buy or replace any tools that you might use on your hair! Using quality products helps prevent against unwanted damage and breakage to your precious locks!
Must-Have Splurge: t3 products
Again, use the Sephora sale as a reason to upgrade those hair tools in your drawer! I’m a yuuuuugggeeeee proponent of all of T3 products. I have both the straightener and the 3-piece curling wand. First off, this wand set was the reason that I learned how to curl my hair. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to using a curling iron, but these wands are incredible and they make curling your hair so easy.
I DO NOT think that all curling irons/wands are created equal. If you have a wand that doesn’t have adjustable settings, you’re frying your hair into oblivion. Aside from adjustable heating settings, the wands make curls stay in my hair so long. I used to always be the girl that went to the salon and said, “Don’t bother curling my hair; it won’t stay.” I’ve gotten curls to stay for 2-3 days without needing any kind of touchup or heavy hairspray. If my hair is damp, the T3 is still able to curl my hair and it stays. It also only takes less than 10 seconds per section to curl (and stay!). I don’t know how many times I need to say it: THESE CURLS STAY. It’s totally worth the investment to get the wand trio if you have long, thick hair, but I will say that I do find myself using the tapered wand the most.
I also have the straightener (albeit an older version than the one currently at Sephora). I will add in everything that I just said about the curling wands and point out that I can usually straighten my LONG hair in under 10 minutes. I usually only need one pass through with the T3 straightener. Even though they are a bit spendy, they are so completely worth it.
Must-Have Splurge: Styling Products
Just like my skincare routine, I have a hair routine as well! I’m going to break each item that I use down by category with my favorites! (If you have a favorite, leave it below! I’m always looking to try new products!)
Heat Protecting Spray
No amount of high quality hair tools will matter if you’re not taking the proper steps to protect your hair before you curl/straighten it. Using a heat protecting spray is one of the best ways to protect your hair from styling. I’ve noticed a huge decline in how frequently I notice split ends (read: almost never) when I make sure to use a spray before styling. I started off by using the GHD protectant spray (since it was given to me free when I got my T3 set), but I’ve also used the one by Briogeo and loved it as well. What matters most is that you use one - so, regardless of brand, find one that you enjoy the smell of!
Styling products: VERB
So, I started using Verb because I was going to Bird’s Barbershop in Austin and getting my hair cut for a LONG TIME. I didn’t know that it was an Austin brand for a long time, but as soon as I did, I found myself being exceedingly loyal (go figure, Keep Austin Local). That being said, there are two products here that I use daily. I use Verb’s Sea Salt Spray in lieu of any kind of hairspray. I hate hairspray. There is nothing worse than relieving my junior high years with crunchy hair. The sea salt spray is the perfect amount of hold when I curl my hair. If I straighten my hair, I spritz a couple sprays of the salt spray on top and run my fingers through it so that it gives it a slightly messy texture. I have a lot of fine hair and it never makes it greasy, sticky, or oily.
I use the Verb Ghost Oil on my ends. It’s a restorative leave-in treatment, but it also provides a bit of heat protection, as well as controlling frizz and flyaways. It’s a great way to add shine once I’m done styling my hair. You also only need a tiny bit of this oil, so a small bottle lasts absolutely FOREVER. I think I bought my bottle earlier this year (and it’s November) and I’m not out of it yet. Such a great product!
And with dry shampoo, she conquered the world. So, if you read the above, I usually keep my hair up in a messy bun. I’m definitely not one of those girls that can go all week without washing her hair (oh, the dream!) - unfortunately, I sweat too much. But, that doesn’t mean that I don’t use (and love!) me some dry shampoo. I usually keep a small mini in my gym bag so that I can spritz my hair throughout the day (or post run or workout) and look semi-presentable. There’s a variety of options out there, but any of these are going to be great options to keep with you. My personal favorite is Living Proof, but I’ve heard great things about the Drybar dry shampoo so I’m linking it below.
This is easily my favorite category and I love hair masks! I try to put deep conditioner in my hair at least once a month, if not more often than that! These hair masks by Briogeo are my absolute favorite and I love the way that they smell. The hair cap is, admittedly, a little dorky, so you need to be able to sit at home for a bit, but that extra bit does help the conditioner soak in!
I also use the Caviar leave-in treatment by Alterna daily as well. I use in the 10-in-1 (because 10 should be better, yes?) and it works as a great leave-in treatment, protectant, and prevents frizz and flyaways.
If you’re looking to try some of the above products, but you’re not wanting to get the full size, Sephora makes a few awesome bundle packs! The bundles are also a great way to get a discounted rate on some of your favorite products. For example, this bundle pack from Dry Bar has full-size bottles and is so much cheaper! And, even if you’re not interested in giving them as gifts, this is a great way to stock up on travel sizes of your favorite products for holiday travel!
