Is anyone still watching Ginny & Georgia? I am! It’s been a Top 10 show on Netflix for over a month since its new season was released at the beginning of January 2023. Without giving too much away, it follows the life of a single mother, Georgia, and her two children—but especially her teenage daughter, Ginny—as they start a whole new life in a rich, small New England town.

Ginny is intelligent and rebellious, and her adolescent life unfolds along with the messes and drama that come with being in high school. Along the way, you learn about their unique family dynamics, dark history, and their daily life in Wellsbury.  As you watch the show, it reminds the audience, indeed, what you see isn't always what you get.

Along with the show being intriguing and gaining popularity as a must-watch series, there are some stylish outfits to take note of!  Maybe because it brings up some nostalgia of growing up in the early 2000s, but I couldn’t help but notice how the characters are dressed.  From oversized sweaters, graphic cropped shirts, the bright hair accessories, and we can’t forget the dark and defined eyeliner.  It makes me think of all of the mall trips I took to Hot Topic while listening to New Found Glory and Simple Plan with my best friends.  I’ll be honest, some things haven’t changed, and these trendy fashion items that were popular then are back in and more popular than ever.

Virginia ‘Ginny’ Miller

You follow the life and thoughts of Virginia ‘Ginny’ Miller throughout the show, and if you’re watching Season 2, you get to know her even more.  Arguably, she can be described as emotional and opinionated.  You can’t blame her—learning about her background and also roughing out high school isn’t always easy.  But throughout the show, you get to see how her personal style evolves and how it becomes more "Ginny" in this season. This includes darker hues, cropped graphic tees, baggy jackets, and tight-fitting pants.  Overall, her fashion style is edgy and can be described as a modern Daria—from her personality to the clothes she wears.

Shop: Crop Tee | Cropped Pants | Bomber Jacket (Affordable Alternative) | Combat Boots | Backpack

A whole Y2K outfit inspired by Ginny is a black crop top, fitted plaid pants, and platform combat boots.  Layer with an oversized bomber jacket and a backpack.  Ginny accentuates her eyebrows and eyes with defined makeup and black eyeliner.  You may already have these items at home, maybe from years ago, but you can bring those items back for an updated and trendy outfit

Maxine Baker

Maxine Baker is the eccentric, yet unforgettable, neighbor and Ginny's best friend, and also her first closest friend in Wellsbury.  Max’s personality is simultaneously one-of-a-kind, loud, and dramatic, and while this might be too much for some people, viewers can’t seem to get enough of her.  She is sassy and her personality certainly shines through her choices of outfits, from wearing ultra-bright tops, neon-colored hair clips, and her love of mixing patterns.

Shop: Floral Cardigan | Jeans | Hair Clip | Boots | Handbag

A fun outfit from the show inspired by Maxine would be a cropped graphic sweater in a bright color of your choice and light-wash, flared denim.  Accessorize with colored or patterned hair clips and chunky white sneakers (or elevate the outfit with white Chelsea boots for a modern flare). Lastly, add on a checkered-print handbag for an extra pinch of Y2K fashion.

Norah

Norah is one of Ginny’s friends and an original member of Maxine’s friend group.  She also has some sass and is almost always with her boyfriend in the show. Her style can be described as feminine, giving off modern day Cher Horowitz vibes.  If that sounds like your style, this is an outfit for you.

Shop: Cardigan | Plaid Skirt | Boots | Earrings | Tote Bag

A Y2K outfit inspired by Norah is a pastel-colored plaid skirt and a fuzzy crop top.  Don’t forget calf-high boots and a cropped jacket of your choice—wearing denim will keep the outfit casual, making it a go-to look for the rest of the year.  For added warmth, layer with nude tights and thick socks.

Abby

Abby is the fourth member of Ginny’s high school friend group.  Abby can come off as cold and dry, but underneath her tough exterior, she is kind and cherishes her friends.  Figuring out friendships in high school can be tough and following her life may remind you of that.  Her style is more athletic, and she often wears cool sneakers, plaid shirts, and warm beanies.

Shop: Puffer Jacket | Flannel Shirt | Jeans | Platform Converse | Beanie

Another everyday outfit inspired by the show and Abby is a cool puffer jacket, blue jeans, and platform sneakers.  Abby often wears dark-wash skinny jeans or baggy jeans throughout the show, so any of these would work well.  All in all, Abby keeps it casual, comfortable, and cool.

Marcus Baker

Marcus Baker—the so-called heartthrob of the show—is also Maxine’s twin brother and Ginny’s crush.  Marcus is also creative and a little mysterious, giving off that bad boy vibe that we inherently always seem to be attracted to, especially in high school.  As you watch Ginny & Georgia (especially in Season 2), he begins to grow on you, as you get to see the ups and downs of his relationship with Ginny.  On top of this, he has a notable style that even us at Swift Wellness can use to get some outfit inspiration!

Shop: Graphic Tee | Denim Jacket | Leggings | Vans | Sunglasses

Marcus has a unique collection of graphic tees, ranging from older bands to tie-dye to phrases expressing extremely dry humor.  Take your pick.  We suggest wearing an oversized graphic tee, comfy leggings, and a sherpa-lined denim jacket.  Choose from your favorite pair of Vans or your go-to leather boots.  Don’t forget your favorite shades to keep the vibe effortlessly cool like Marcus.  When you’re feeling just a little lazy, but want to still look and feel cool, think of wearing this.

Georgia Miller

Now, we can’t forget Georgia Miller! Not only is she Ginny’s mother, but she has an impressive personality that we can all learn a little bit from.  She makes an impact on almost everyone she meets, including the millions of viewers watching Ginny & Georgia

Shop: Puff Sleeve Top | Coat | Skirt | Bucket Bag | Heels | Earrings

Maybe we won’t get Y2K outfit inspiration, but she is always dressed well throughout the show.  Each outfit looks complete and carefully thought out, from the accessories to her outerwear.  Her style can be described as classy and elegant, but always with a little spice.  She rocks high heels with minimal effort and always ensures she has a quality leather purse before leaving the house.  A Georgia-inspired outfit is a puff sleeve top, a tight-fitting pencil skirt, and your warmest wool coat.  Just like Georgia, don’t forget your high heels, large gold studs, a pop of lip color, and your designer purse.  Lastly, step out your door with your shoulders back and head held high.

Both seasons of Ginny & Georgia are available on Netflix to view whenever you like.  Maybe you have a favorite character on the show or one you connect with most, but it is a little fun to get fashion inspiration from the shows we like to binge watch.  Recreate these Y2K outfits or mix and match items from above with what’s already in your closet to create new, everyday looks to wear all year long.
