Aries

Girls Burn Brighter

Shobha Rao

Aries tend to be bold and competitive, and always want to be number one. Goal setters and go getters, Aries could dominate the world if they really set their mind to it.

“Girls Burn Brighter” by Shobha Rao follows the friendship of Poornima and Savitha — two impoverished girls in the same Indian village. Savitha shows Poornima the beauty in life and potential she has after Poornima’s mother dies and she has to take care of her siblings, as she faces an arranged marriage. When Savitha is taken away from India, Poornima sets out to America to find her again. This book highlights the societal issues of abuse, human trafficking, poverty, feminism and more.

This novel has two fiery, female protagonists and is a beautiful showcase of how one person can change the course of your life. A story of determination, Aries should definitely pick this book up.

Taurus

The Hating Game

Sally Thorne

Stubborn, set in their ways and spiritually grounded, a Taurus knows what they want and is dedicated to get it. A Taurus is also dependable, loyal and a great listener — making them a great person to have in your life.

“The Hating Game” by Sally Thorne is the perfect book for a Taurus. The plot line revolves around two executive assistants at rival publishing companies, Lucy and Joshua, who are forced to work together when the businesses merge. Their work days are spent antagonizing and hating one another and planning each other’s sabotage when they find out they are up for the same promotion. As the book progresses, Lucy and Joshua are unable to deny their attraction for one another...so you can see where the story might lead. “The Hating Game” is a sexy, witty and fun take on the hater-turned-lover genre, and the stubborn main characters scream Taurus.

Gemini

Conversations with Friends

Sally Rooney

Geminis are busy bodies that tend to be spontaneous or totally erratic, as well as intelligent and sparked by various curiosities. A lot of Sally Rooney’s characters tend to fit this persona, especially in her novel “Conversations with Friends.”

The novel follows the relationship of Frances and her best friend, Bobbi. Both university students in Dublin, they strike up a friendship with an older photographer and journalist named Melissa. Bobbi is obsessed with the idea of Melissa, while Frances doesn't necessarily understand the appeal, but rather becomes enthralled by Melissa’s husband, Nick. Frances and Nick are drawn into an intoxicating affair.

While “Conversations with Friends” lacks a solid plot line, climax or resolution (the story just sort of dissipates without any closure or real meaning), Rooney pens characters that sometimes aren’t even likable, but you will just find compelling. You want to learn more about them because of their chaotic energy, poor decision making and unreliability — cue the Gemini.

Cancer

Normal People

Sally Rooney

Highly intuitive and in touch with their emotions, Cancers are loyal and protective of themselves and others. Cancers tend to be extremely passionate and sensitive. “Normal People” by Sally Rooney is a novel that emotional Cancers wouldn’t be able to put down — and they would probably never stop talking about (and for good reason).

Another novel by Rooney set in Ireland, “Normal People” follows the relationship of popular athlete Connell and outsider Marianne — two students with a secret intimacy outside of school that ends in heartbreak.

A year later, their roles are reversed when they’re attending Trinity College, where Marianne is a well-liked socialite and Connell is lonely and trying to find his place. Their circles continue to cross throughout their time at university, and they always find a way back to one another.

While a heartbreaking love story, this novel also explores the topics of social class, depression, loss of a loved one, grief, emotional abuse and more. For highly emotional, passionate and sensitive people like Cancers, this book is sure to tug at the heartstrings.

Leo

My Year of Rest and Relaxation

Ottessa Moshfegh

Passionate, somewhat egotistical and natural born leaders, Leos command your presence and own the room. Leos are self-assured and unafraid to stand up for their beliefs, but sometimes need to be brought back to their center. “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” by Ottessa Moshfegh is a provocative and captivating novel that follows the life of the narrator — a young, beautiful, intelligent, wealthy Columbia grad that works at an art gallery and lives in New York’s Upper East Side. Filled with emptiness and struggling with past trauma, the narrator quits her job and decides to just take a year “off” of life in general and alienates herself inside her apartment.

This book has mixed reviews. While a brilliant idea, the main character is seen as egotistical, privileged and dramatic — which Leos sometimes tend to come across as. But it also explores sensitivity and vulnerability, and that even the most confident of people struggle beneath the surface.

Virgo

Perks of Being a Wallflower

Stephen Chbosky

Virgos are logical and practical in every sense of the word, methodical in their practices and uber-organized (sometimes to a fault). Perfectionists and over thinkers, Virgos tend to get stressed easily and fixate on every detail. “Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky follows Charlie — a shy and introverted teen—who observes life, rather than fully participating in it.

A coming of age story about stepping outside of your comfort zone, this book is a must-read for Virgos who may be experiencing big life changes and struggling with breaking free from old habits

Libra

Little Women

Louisa May Alcott

If you know a Libra or have one close to you in real life, you know they are extroverted and friendly. Libras are represented by the scale — meaning they focus on creating equilibrium. Libras bring a sense of balance to their relationships, and act as a comfort to whoever they are around. The perfect book for a Libra to pick up? “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott is a classic novel that needs no description.

Generations of readers, both young and old, have fallen in love with this novel and the endearing characters of the March sisters and the relationships depicted throughout this novel. While a very old novel, this book can be reread year after year and you can still find comfort in it — making it a cult favorite and classic (just like the Libra in your life).

Scorpio

The Catcher in the Rye

J.D. Salinger

Oh, Scorpios. A mysterious, complex and dynamic water sign. Emotionally intuitive and profound thinkers, Scorpios are wise beyond their years. “The Catcher in the Rye” is another classic, perfect for Scorpios. Just like the narrator of the novel, Holden Caulfield, Scorpios are careful observers that take into account everything they see and hear. The book recalls Holden’s numerous encounters and recounts his attempts to make connections, while simultaneously pushing others away and failing to grow into adulthood.

A deeply intuitive and detailed novel, “The Catcher in the Rye” should be added to your reading list if you’re a Scorpio (or trying to understand one).

Sagittarius

The Art of Non-Conformity

Chris Guillebeau

Extremely intelligent and curious about life’s wonders, Sagittarius is always in the pursuit to learn more and experience new things. Sagittarius are honest and independent, but sometimes impatient and unable to follow through because they want to make their own rules and live life according to their own plan.

Following the life experiences of its author Chris Guillebeau, “The Art of Non-Conformity” is a nonfiction book perfect for any Sag looking to go down a different path and explore all that life has to offer. Life doesn’t have a handbook and you can write your own rules, and this book inspires and gives practical advice about how to take life and make it your own.

Capricorn

To Hell with the Hustle

Jefferson Bethke

Ambitious and persistent, Capricorns are busy bodies focused on working hard and meeting goals. Capricorns are responsible, workaholics and (more often than not) realists that tend to have a practical, sometimes pessimistic, outlook on life.

“To Hell with the Hustle” by Jefferson Bethke challenges readers to quit the cycle of constantly working and wanting more. For Capricorns...that may be difficult. But, the book is essentially just one giant slap in the face/wake-up call to say no to the never ending hustle culture that is so present in today’s society.

While this book is heavily faith-based, the deeper meaning of wanting to quit the cycle of overworking ourselves as a society can apply to anyone, regardless of spiritual beliefs.

So listen up Capricorns — you may want to pick this book up.

Aquarius

The Course of Love

Alain de Botton

Some Aquarius can be enthusiastic, clever, optimistic, while others tend to be calm and overly sensitive. Above all else, Aquarius people are passionate to make change (and hopeless romantics). Harry Styles is an Aquarius, and one of his favorite books is “The Course of Love” by Alain de Botton...so it’s a no-brainer that if you’re an Aquarius you should read this book.

But in all seriousness, this book really is perfect for all of the Aquarius out there. This novel explores not only the journey of love, but the lead up to love, what happens after falling in love and how to maintain a relationship despite societal pressures, and the various ups and downs we as humans face.

“The Course of Love” is a clever, compelling and poignant read that Aquarius should definitely read.

Pisces

Malibu Rising

Taylor Jenkins Reid

Pisces is one of the most intuitive, aware and emotionally sensitive signs. Extremely in touch with all the highs and lows of life, Pisces learn from every lesson they are taught. A union of a realist and idealist, Pisces are creative thinkers, whose artistic abilities trump those of other signs.

Set in 1983 on the beach in Malibu (perfect for our Pisces water sign), “Malibu Rising” explores the relationship between the famous Riva siblings — Nina, Hud, Jay and Kit. Nina is a model and professional surfer who’s just been abandoned by her tennis player husband. Hud and Jay have two very different personalities (but are in love with the same girl). And Kit, the youngest, is growing into her body and coming to terms with her sexuality. Written on the night of the infamous Riva sibling beach house party, but with flashbacks to their childhood and their parents' relationship, “Malibu Rising” is a tragic and heartbreaking read that evokes various emotions.

Exploring topics of social class, sexuality, alcohol abuse and more, Taylor Jenkins Reid brings to life the family’s history and the sacrifices Nina made for her younger siblings.
