We’re months into spring and just a few weeks away from summer, moving rapidly through the year and entering those transitional months between the two seasons.  Days become less breezy, the days get longer, and each one is filled with more sunshine…and more heat.  However, we haven’t quite reached that peak summertime high yet where your default uniform is denim shorts, tank tops, and Birkenstocks.

While we love an easy, comfortable summer outfit, there are some stylish spring closet staples that can still be worn in full effect throughout the summer months, too.  The trick is all in how you style it—by mixing and matching these spring clothes with the summer essentials that already live in your closet, you’ll be able to create cute, transitional spring-to-summer outfits…without hurting your wallet.

7 Outfits To Transition Your Spring Wardrobe Into a Summer One (Without Breaking The Bank)

If You Are A Lover Of Florals

Shop: Dress | Shoes | Handbag | Earrings | Necklace | Sunglasses

Florals are the underrated patterns that aren’t only pretty for spring.  Arguably, a floral dress is a closet staple that can be worn all year long. But, even though spring is coming to a close, don’t feel like you have to tuck it away quite yet!

Instead, wear a tank floral dress layered with several gold necklaces and a pair of leather mules.  If you have a cute pedicure you want to show off,  putting on a pair of your favorite sandals will look just as lovely.   Don’t forget your sunglasses and boho bag for all your summer bag essentials. This is an easy everyday outfit or a comfortable one to wear for a day out with friends!

If You Can’t Stop Wearing Your Denim Maxi Skirt

Shop: Bodysuit | Denim Skirt | Belt | Sandals | Handbag

Okay, guilty. Ever since I bought my own this past winter, I have found so many ways to style it.  (It’s like wearing your favorite denim jeans, but way more comfortable.)  For an easy spring-to-summer outfit, take your denim maxi skirt and pair it with a leather belt, black bodysuit, and a bright lip color!  You can accessorize with bright jewelry if you want or keep a more minimalist style with gold or silver basics.  For the warmer months, I would wear platform sandals, but any shoes will work with this outfit as we move into summer. Whether it’s heels, boots, or sneakers, pick a pair that fits the occasion: date nights, concerts, music festivals, or brunch with the girls. Without a doubt, this outfit will be your next go-to.

If You Love Walking In Your Ballet Flats

Shop: Shirt | Shorts | Flats | Necklace | Ring | Handbag

Ballet flats have made a comeback and to be frank, I was weary of these shoes becoming trendy again.  However, I’ve seen some cute outfits these past few months that have changed my mind. (We also can’t deny their comfort and how they add feminine flair effortlessly.) Personally, I love how it can balance out a sporty or more casual outfit, or make an outfit feel a little more classy and stylish, too. To help you to transition these trendy shoes into summer with an easy outfit, wear them with mid-length denim shorts and a basic summer top. If you’re not a fan of denim, a pair of dress or linen shorts will look great, too. If the weather is still chilly, finish the look with your favorite oversized bomber jacket to keep the outfit effortlessly cool.

If You Love The Trouser Trend

Shop: Vest | Trousers | Necklace | Earrings | Handbag | Sneakers

Slacks, trousers, dress pants, whatever you want to call them—they’re a stylish staple that everyone looks great in.  A pair of classic black dress pants became a staple last fall, not just in workwear but as a feature in casual outfits as well. Spring welcomed the same pants but in lighter hues, such as beige, khaki, and tan.  These light-colored pants will be perfect to wear during the transitional months—maybe you’ll even feel bold enough to wear a colorful pair once summer finally arrives.  If the sun is warm, keep the look elevated with a dressy vest and a statement watch, before balancing it out with a pair of your favorite sneakers.  This outfit is laid back enough for an everyday outfit, yet still appropriate as a summery in-office look.

If You Want To Start Wearing Heels Again

Shop: Tee | Jeans | Heels | Necklace | Handbag

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost interest in wearing heels as much as I used to…unless it is a special occasion.  But, there are still times when I want to dress up in a pair of heels, so it’s nice when the weather helps make that decision even easier.  As we leave spring behind and start entering the warmer months, put on some open-toed kitten heels.  They’re a more comfortable option, especially when you’re no longer interested in wearing shoes over three inches. Style these heels with a pair of flared jeans, a white tee, and your go-to leather bag.  With some gold huggie earrings, a thin choker, and your hair in a tight, low bun, this outfit is an ode to the ‘90s with a slightly modern touch.

If You Love To Play Pickleball

Shop: Polo | Sweater | Skirt | Socks | Sneakers | Watch

Just kidding.  You don’t have to love tennis or pickleball to pull this outfit off, even though the centerpiece of the look is a pleated skirt. It had been a popular fashion piece during much of last year, so if it can remain trendy throughout the winter months, why should we exclude it from our summer wardrobe?   Style your tennis skirt with a collared tank top, cap, a light sweater (to tie over your shoulders, of course), and a pair of sneakers. Finish the look with your favorite gold jewelry to dress up and elevate the outfit.  Oh, and the paddles and whiffle balls are optional, too.

If You Love To Be Color Coordinated

Shop: Set | Tank | Earrings | Handbag | Sneakers

I love a good matching set—no matter the season.  Some may say it’s a “lazy girl” look, but I like to call it comfy and cool.  You might already have a basic or neutral-colored set, but now is the time to change it up with a pastel shade or brighter color from top to bottom.  To style this set, we suggest pairing it with retro-style sneakers and a boho bag.  For any upcoming spring plans or summer trips, consider this outfit as your next coordinated airport look.  If you know that you’re the type of person who always runs a little warm, wear a matching tank top underneath to keep the monochrome look going even when you take off a layer to cool down.  This outfit can easily transition from looking sporty to a relaxed vacation look with a quick change from shoes to sandals.

As we all know, good things must come to an end (like this article). So, while I’m a fan of spring, it’s time to make the seasonal fashion transition fun, easy, and affordable with what you already have. As we leave spring and say hi to summer, don’t forget to allow yourself room to be creative and let your style shine, even as you transition your spring wardrobe into a stylish and timeless summer one!
